5 Women Who Changed the Manufacturing Industry

International Women’s Day, March 8th, is an important day that recognizes the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. On this day, Staff Management wants to celebrate the achievements of five remarkable women who left an indelible mark on the manufacturing industry.

Margaret Knight: She was an inventor and entrepreneur who is credited with inventing a machine to automatically fold and glue paper bags, which became widely used in the industry. She was awarded multiple patents for her inventions, making her one of the most successful female inventors of the 19th century.

Rosie the Riveter: Rosie the Riveter was a cultural icon that represented the women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II, helping to produce supplies for the war effort. Rosie the Riveter became a symbol of female empowerment and a reminder of women’s important role in the war effort.

Madam C.J. Walker: She was an entrepreneur and philanthropist best known for developing a line of hair care products for black women. She became the first female self-made millionaire in the United States in 1910 and used her wealth to support social causes such as education and the arts.

Ella May Wiggins: She was a labor activist and songwriter who worked in the textile mills of North Carolina during the early 20th century. She is best known for her protest songs, which gave voice to working-class women’s struggles and helped inspire the labor movement.

Stephanie Kwolek: She was a chemist who developed Kevlar, a strong and lightweight material used in body armor, helmets, and other protective gear. Kevlar has saved countless lives and is widely used in law enforcement and military applications. Kwolek’s discovery has been recognized as one of the most important innovations of the 20th century.
