SMG Volunteers at St. Joseph Social Service Center in Elizabeth, NJ
For over 40 years, Staff Management has proudly supported communities across New Jersey, including Union County, home to multiple SMG branches in Elizabeth (Elizabeth Ave. and Morris Ave.) and Plainfield, by connecting people with meaningful work and giving back through service whenever possible.
Yesterday morning, five members of our team volunteered at St. Joseph Social Service Center in Elizabeth, NJ, assisting with their food distribution efforts and supporting individuals and families in the local community.
Our group helped distribute food to roughly 150 clients, ensuring an organized and respectful experience for everyone being served. We worked alongside staff and fellow volunteers to help keep the process running smoothly and efficiently.
"It was my first service event with SMG, and it was an eye-opening experience. I hope everyone has the privilege to give back to the community the way we did today. It's absolutely mesmerizing."
Jailene, Staffing Specialist (SMG)
St. Joseph Social Service Center’s mission is rooted in bringing people and communities together to serve neighbors with love, dignity, and compassion. With the support of volunteers and partners like the Community Food Bank, whom we have also worked with numerous times before, they provide essential resources such as food, health programs, and support services to those in need.
It’s also a special time for the organization, as they celebrate 40 years of service to the Elizabeth community. Throughout this milestone year, they are honoring individuals who make their work possible. Yesterday’s dedication recognized Tama, whose commitment and reliability continue to make a meaningful impact.
"For many in the community, the food distribution represents stability during uncertain times, dignity in moments of need, and hope for a better tomorrow ... This service is more than just providing food. It is a lifeline for those facing hardship.”
Mary, Development Director (SJSSC)
Volunteers are truly the backbone of St. Joseph’s, and it was an honor for our team to be part of that effort, even for a few hours. Experiences like this serve as a reminder that hunger and hardship can affect anyone, and that showing up for one another matters.
We are incredibly grateful to the St. Joseph team for welcoming us and allowing us to contribute to such important work. It was a rewarding and humbling experience that reflects the power of community and compassion in action.
