Why Do People Quit?

The strike of the COVID-19 Pandemic took the world by storm in 2020 but did you know that this reason alone is not the sole contributor to the drastic increase in unemployment? In 2021, U.S. workers continued to leave their jobs, despite the pandemic settling down, but other contributing factors were present after the climax of the pandemic.

In November of 2021 Pew Research Center conducted a survey and finds the reason for an increase in unemployment is due to:

  1. Low pay
  2. Lack of opportunity for advancement
  3. Feeling disrespected at work

Shockingly, only 31% of this population stated that their reason for resigning was due to the COVID-19 outbreak—Both men and women agreed at the same rate.

Another noticeable difference is the rise in unemployment rates among minorities. “Non-white adults who quit their job last year are more likely than their White counterparts to say the reasons include not having enough flexibility (52% vs. 38%), wanting to relocate to a different area (41% vs. 30%), working too few hours (37 vs. 24%) or their employer requiring that they have a COVID-19 vaccine (27% vs. 10%). The non-white race category includes those who identify as Black, Asian, Hispanic, some other race or multiple races” (Pew Research Center, 1).

Staff Management understands the struggles of the everyday American-worker and consistently works to better the working environment for our own employees. Our goal is simply to employ our very own communities who are struggling to find a good paying job and we find ways to make that transition simpler.
